OUR MISSION

Our laboratory conducts research pertaining to multiscale mechanical modeling and experimental analysis of heterogeneous structures, such as blood clots, for understanding disease emanation and progression  (i.e. diabetes and sickle cell disease). Dr. Averett's expertise is in the area of fiber mechanics, molecular modeling, and mechanical modeling. Mechanical modeling techniques and experimental assays are being developed to solve complex multi-scale problems pertaining to aberrations in thrombosis or hemostasis due to disease or excessive injury. The goal of my research program is to combine hybrid computational and experimental approaches in the area of fibrin mechanics and nanocomposite materials for the development of applications that advance biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, and clinical research.
